Dr. Anderson is a doctor of chiropractic. Chiropractic is used by millions of people worldwide. Chiropractic care is a system of natural healthcare that helps people with many different kinds of health problems. Most people think of chiropractic as a good solution for back and neck pain, but it is so much more than that. It is a whole system for taking care of health problems using natural noninvasive methods to restore health without using drugs or surgery. And it has been around for over 115 years.
About Chiropractic Philosophy
We look at the whole picture.
Our philosophy about the body differs from the outlook of standard medicine which divides the body into smaller and smaller parts, each one serviced by its own specialist. Chiropractors look at their patients holistically, as whole people with real lives. We know that no part of your body is divorced from any other part. Your body is a magnificent integrated system. Each organ, tissue, and cell in your body communicates with every other. Chiropractors work with the communication system in your body, the nervous system. After all, what controls everything that happens inside of you? What controls every sensation, every movement, every thought and feeling? The answer is your brain and nervous system. Our focus in chiropractic is on optimizing the function of this system.
We treat causes – not just symptoms.
Here is an example. If you heard a fire alarm going off, would it be wise to merely shut the alarm off and then go on about your business? If you keep shutting off the alarm each time it goes off without ever attending to the raging fire that is triggering it, chances are you are not going to be very happy with the end result. This is what you are doing every time you take a medication to mask the symptom of pain.
Symptoms like pain, numbness, or tingling are the body’s signal (the alarm) that something is wrong. In chiropractic, we work to quench the fire, the underlying reason that the signal is being sent. In other words, we want to get to the root cause of the problem and eliminate it. In doing so, the pain will automatically go away. This is not because we turned the signal off, but because we corrected the underlying problem that was causing the pain to begin with.
Doesn’t that make more sense?
We restore balance.
We remove interference.
Sometimes we do things that interfere with the body’s innate ability to heal. For example, if we rub dirt into our cut, it will take longer to heal. If we keep piling more stressors onto our system (too little sleep on top of too much coffee on top of unrelenting job stress) it will be more difficult to bring our body back into balance. In this way, the body’s innate healing response can be compromised or interfered with.
When there is an interference to the normal flow of energy through the nervous system, the system no longer functions normally. In chiropractic we call this interference a subluxation. Because the nervous system controls everything in your body from feeling different sensations to the beating of your heart, a subluxation can have far reaching consequences.

We use natural methods.
Chiropractors use their hands or small adjusting tools to correct subluxations in a safe and gentle manner. This correction is called an adjustment. The adjustment results in improved joint function, better range of motion, and improved circulation, as well as improved nerve flow. Decrease in pain, swelling, and restricted motion are natural ‘side effects’ of this procedure.
In addition, if we feel it is warranted, we may use natural food based nutrition to influence a patient’s biochemistry to bring the physiological aspect of the body back into balance using nutrients to accomplish this instead of drugs or harsh chemicals (which almost always have side effects).
We may also work on restoring function and mobility to the body using specific exercises or stretches. We make recommendations for things to do and things to avoid in daily activities. We may recommend herbal preparations, or a heat or ice application. We may work with you to develop an exercise program or a nutrition plan. We may recommend a course of massage therapy or refer you to another healing modality in conjunction with ours.
We may ask you about stressors in your life that may be contributing to your problem. We may also inquire about activities you may be engaging in that could be causing you to subluxate or slowing your healing. In other words, we will problem-solve with you to encourage your body to heal quickly and to make sure that this problem does not return again. We work in partnership with you so that you can get back to feeling better as soon as possible.
We work in partnership with you.
Ultimately, chiropractors know that we are not the healers. Your body has to heal itself. Your body knows how to do this. Sometimes there is an interference to that healing and this is what we work on removing. Chiropractic removes the interference so that your body can do what it already knows how to do. Mother Nature does the rest.
